# 1 - Integrity
Integrity as all of us know is our number one core value. But do we undestand the meaning
of integrity? In simple termsit means sticking by or abiding by our commitments. But how do
we understand commitments? Can you pause for a moment and think about all the commitments
related to our professional life? When we work as a team, we have commitments to each
other. No situation exists where a person can come to this office, sit at his or her desk
and put in some hours and go back. We work in an environment that is cross-linked with
commitments each other and these links are as strong as our integrity is.So if we are
failing in our commitments we have to accept that our integrity is low. Now, we cannot
allow that to happen. Integrity is our topmost core value. So we will not compromise.
There will be consequences if integrity is violated. since we, the Stylus team have vowed
that we will not tolerate it. Let us therefore keep our commitments and demand integrity
from one another. The integrity of an organisation is the integrity of its people.

# 2 - The Fitness Test
There is an interesting definition to fitness. If you want to test who is the fittest guy,
then apply physical stress to the guys in question to have each of their pulse rates race
at a particular speed, let's say 120 beats/sec. The fittest guy is the one whose heart
beat reverts back to his resting pulse rate in the shortest time.(Resting pulse rate for
an average healthy adult is around 70 beats/sec) This definition of fitness can be
extended to all areas of human organization. Additional to physical, emotional and
spiritual fitness it also holds good in organizational behavior. When we have quick
changes and setbacks, how do we react? If we are fit as individuals and as an
organization, we will quickly recover and redeploy in such a manner so as to maximize
value. If on the other hand we are affected, and we go down in morale and thereby droop in
performance, quality and profitability, we are an unhealthy bunch.
This applies very significantly to our present situation where we are frequently
experiencing uncertainty and turbulent changes. It also has a strong message in the
present context where many IT companies are going down.
Let us therefore concentrate on being fit as an organization, for it is this fitness
that would shape our future as a company.

# 3 - Training
As we begin a new financial year, I think it is a good time to reflect on the last
quarter. We had a great quarter in Q4. The training was one key thing. Are we going to
reap the benefits? Q1 of the new year opens with a few concerns. Yes indeed, we have two
reasonably big projects almost in hand. But almost is a dangerous word. We seem to have
time on our hands now. How intelligently are we deploying our resources and creativity? We
should quickly identify and prioritise value projects. For example, product development
can be re-visited.
Another concern is the lack of enthusiasm towards constant improvement. Only few people
are consistent in their responsiveness to "Find a better way". I can accept
forgetfulness but not bothering to identify and propose nominations is identified as an
indifference towards finding a better way.Such people are satisfied by the status quo and
lack the concern to always better the situation. Alertness and being initiators in this
will be positively favored in the upcoming organisationwide review tentatively by the end
of this month. So, kudos to those who are consistent

# 4 - Work with passion
A wise advice given by a father to his child who was not as bright or enterprising as her
siblings goes thus "It is not as important what you do or what your abilities are.
But whatever you do, do it with passion. That is very important"
I believe that this separates the winners from the mediocre. It is often not genius but
passion that takes us to higher glory. When we are passionate in what we are doing, then
we enjoy it. Work becomes fun and no longer a burden. What are we passionate about as we
walk into this office? Are we passionate about excellence? customer satisfaction? new
ideas? improved processes? Can each one of us find an honest answer to this important
question? We need not declare the answers, for it will easily show up in the way we work.
If there is not a reasonable answer that can be given to the question, then I would
suggest that such a person is in the wrong job. Either the company is not suited for the
person or the person is not suited for the company. But no situation is without hope if
either entity is sensitive and committed enough to influence change.
